Anglers of every stripe can enjoy the Hammond Port Authority waters for the bounty of fish they provide.

Lake Michigan
The Hammond Marina serves as a launch for boat-based fishing, as well as a bin wall from which to angle.

Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. sponsors an annual Fishing Derby each April.

Lake Michigan waters are overseen by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (stocking schedules are found here). Lake Michigan fish include: 

  • Coho salmon 
  • Chinook salmon
  • Steelhead (Skamania)
  • Lake trout
  • Yellow perch
  • Smallmouth & other sunfish species
  • Winter-run steelhead

Wolf Lake
Fish on Wolf Lake by small boat or from the area’s restored shoreline. Motorized boats cannot exceed 10 hp limit. The Hammond Parks Department reports that recent catches in Wolf Lake include:

  • Northern pike
  • Walleye
  • Muskie
  • Yellow perch
  • White perch
  • Blue gill
  • Large-mouthed bass
  • Small-mouthed bass




George Lake
