Education
The Hammond Port Authority offers several education programs:
Youth Sailing
Throughout the summer, The Hammond Marina and the Illiana Yacht Club will hold youth sailing events at Wolf Lake Memorial Park. The program is open to all between the ages of 10 & 16 years old.
The Youth Sailing Program uses a Vanguard pram, a single-sail boat, which supports two small children or a single youth.
Participants must be accompanied by a guardian 18 years or older. The cost for a two-hour lesson (1/2 hour of instruction, 1 1/2 hours of sailing) is $15. Safety equipment is included. To learn more, please contact the Hammond Marina Office at (219) 659-7678.
Sailing Classes
1.) Sail-A-Way
Sail-A-Way is a learn-to-sail program that provides classroom and on-water sailing instruction for both the able bodied and disabled. Sailing is enjoyed aboard uniquely designed Freedom Independence 20-foot sailboats. Active students are encouraged to learn to sail independently on Lake Michigan. 12 hours of Instruction (six 2-hour lessons) plus books and materials are included. Lesson times can be reserved in advance and scheduled to your convenience. One-to-four instructor/student ratio is emphasized. Remember……..you are eligible to rent the sailboats once you complete the course and pass the Skipper Check Out.
2.) Discover Sailing: A 3 hour introduction to sailing on Lake Michigan.
3.) Re-Visit Sailing: A 4 hour program designed to refresh your sailing skills.
4.) Boat Smart: The Hammond Marina serves as the hosting site of the Coast Guard’s annual clinic.

Golfing
The Lost Marsh Golf Course offers golf education for children and adults.
1.) The First Tee: Provides golf education for children seeking to master the links.
2.) A Golf Clinic is offered every Wednesday night for links enthusiasts looking to improve their game.
